Agadelcha Dance by Israel Yakovee Notes by Phillip M. Feldman June 30, 1988 Agadelcha is a four-part line or circle dance of slow to moderate tempo. The difficulty level is 3 on a scale of 1 to 5. The music has a long introduction; the dance begins together with the vocal part. These notes are based in part on notes by Donald Rapp. Part 1: Face center with dancers close together. Bend arms at elbows and join hands to close the circle tightly. 1-4: Reverse chirkassia: Step back with R, rock forward onto L, step forward with R, and rock back onto L. 5-6: Lift right knee and close R to L (weight is now on both feet). 7-8: Body roll: Without moving feet, bend knees, lift slightly on toes, straighten knees, and bring heels down. 9-11: "Classical" Yemenite right: (Small) step to the right with R, very small step backward with L, and cross R directly in front of L. Steps should be bouncy. 12: Pause for 1 count. 13-16: Classical Yemenite left and pause (mirror image of 9-12). 17-64: Repeat 1-16 three more times. Part 2: Begin facing center with hands joined. Increase separation between dancers. 1-2: Step back with R and rock forward onto L. 3-4: Step forward with R and leap forward onto L, releasing hands. 5-6: Step forward with R and snap fingers; hold for 1 count. 7-8: Step forward with L and snap fingers; pivot 180 degrees to the left to face out of the circle. 9-16: Repeat 9-16 of part 1. 17-32: Repeat 1-16 (begin facing out and end facing center). Part 3: Begin facing center; hands are raised above head (not joined). .BL 1-2: Step to the right with R and pivot 180 degrees to the right on R to face out of the circle. 3-4: Step to the left (leaning left) and lean to the right. Counts 5-8 mirror 1-4. 5-6: Step to the left with L and pivot 180 degrees to the left to face center. 7-8: Step to the right (leaning right) and lean to the left. 9-16: Repeat 9-16 of part 1. 17-32: Repeat 1-16. Part 4: Begin facing center; raise hands with pinkies extended. 1-2: Cross R in front of L, bending knees and back slightly, and hold for 1 count. 3-4: Rock back onto L and step to the right with R. 5-6: Cross L in front of R and hold for 1 count. 7-8: Leap in place onto R, turning 90 degrees to the left to face reverse LOD (CW around circle) and hold for 1 count. Styling: Straighten body and lift left knee as you transfer weight to R. 9-12: Travel forward with L-R-L-pause. 13-16: Travel forward with R-L-R-pause. Count 17-32 mirror 1-16: 17-18: Cross L in front of R and hold for 1 count. 19-20: Rock back onto R and step to the left with L. 21-22: Cross R in front of L and hold for 1 count. 23-24: Leap in place onto L, turning 90 degrees to the right to face LOD (CCW around circle) and hold for 1 count. Same styling as for 7-8. 25-28: Travel forward with R-L-R-pause. 29-32: Travel forward with L-R-L, pivoting 90 degrees to the left on 32 to face center and joining arms as in part 1. Transition: Face center; link arms to close circle. 1-2: Step forward with R, right knee bent, and straighten knee. 3-4: Close L to R and hold for 1 count. 5-8: Repeat 1-4.
