Mayim Mayim (Water, Water) Notes by Phillip M. Feldman August 18, 1988 Mayim Mayim is a moderately fast three-part circle dance. The level of difficulty is 1 on a scale of 1 to 5. Except for the second half of part 3, hands are joined at waist level throughout the dance. Part 1: Facing center. 1-4: Four running steps of Mayim right (traveling CW around the circle): Cross R in front of L, step to the left with L, cross R behind L, and step to the left with L. 5-16: Repeat 1-4 three more times. Part 2: Facing center. 1-4: Travel into the circle with four running steps (R-L-R-L). Styling: Bend forward on 1 and 2; straighten up and raise arms (hands are still joined) on 3 and 4. 5-8: Travel backwards out of the circle with R-L-R-L, clapping on 5 and immediately joining hands again. 9-16: Repeat 1-8. Transition: Facing reverse LOD (CW around the circle). 1-4: Travel forward with four small (almost in-place) running steps (R-L-R-L). Lift heel (bending knee) after each step. Part 3: Facing center. Begin with hands joined. 1-7: Hop 7 times on L. While hopping, touch once per count with R: in front on odd counts, to the right on even counts. 8: Step to the right with R. 9-16: Mirror image of 1-8 (hop on R and touch with L). Styling is different: Release hands and clap on odd counts. On 16, step to the left with L.
