Rona Notes by Phillip M. Feldman June 8, 1988 Rona is a fast three-part circle dance; the music sounds like a combination of Middle Eastern and South American styles. The difficulty level is 3 on a scale of 1 to 5. Hands are joined at waist level except when turning. The music has a fairly long introduction; the dance begins at the start of the vocal part. Part 1: Face center. 1-2: Three quick sways (R-L-R) followed by a 1/2 count pause. 3-4: Cross L behind R, step to right with R, cross L in front of R, and pause for 1/2 count. 5-8: Repeat 1-4. 9-10: Step to right with R and touch with left toe behind R. 11-12: Step to left with L and touch with right toe behind L. 13-14: Quick Yemenite right: Step to right with R, lean to left, cross R in front of L, and pause for 1/2 count. 15-16: Quick Yemenite left. Part 2: Begin facing LOD (CCW around the circle). 1-2: Two quick running steps forward with R-L, leaping off L and turning 180 degrees to the left in mid-air to face reverse LOD and land with L forward (weight on both feet). Pause for 1/2 count. 3-4: (Pivoting to face center) repeat counts 3-4 of part 1. 5-8: Repeat 1-4. 9-10: (Facing LOD) step forward with R and touch in front with left toe. 11-12: Backward Yemenite left: Step backward with L, close R to L, and step forward with L. 13-24: Repeat 1-12. 25-26: (Facing LOD) fall forward onto R (lifting left knee) and step forward onto L. 27-28: Repeat 25-26. Part 3: Face center. 1-2: Travel forward with right-together-right-pause (R-L-R). 3-4: Travel forward with left-together-left-pause (L-R-L). 5-6: Yemenite right. 7-8: Yemenite left. 9-10: Travel backward with right-together-right-pause (R-L-R). 11-12: Travel backward with left-together-left-pause (L-R-L). 13: Cross R in front of L and hold. 14: Rock back onto L and hop, lifting left knee. 15: Quick two-step turn to the right with R-L. 16: Quick sway-sway (right and left).
