Sapri Tama Dance by Yoav Ashriel, 1968 Notes by Phillip M. Feldman 6/21/1986 Revised 8/6/1987 This beginner-level dance has two parts. Dancers form several rows all facing in the same direction; hands are not joined. The direction of travel is parallel to the rows. The dance repeats eight times; during each repeat (see below) dancers turn 90 degrees to the right so that rows become columns and columns become rows. Part 1: 1-2: Step to the right with R and stamp L without weight, i.e., so that weight remains on R. Stamp lightly. Raise both arms on count 1 and, swaying slightly to the right, snap fingers on 2. 3-4: Step to the left with L and stamp R without weight. Arms remain raised; sway to the left and snap fingers on 4. 5-8: Swivel (or pivot on L) 90 degrees to right and lower arms. Stamp 3 times in-place with R-L-R and pause for one count. The third stamp is without weight. 9-12: Yemenite right: Step to the right with R, lean left (trans- ferring weight to L), cross R in front of L, and pause for one count. There should be little or no movement of L. 13-16: Yemenite-left (mirror image of Yemenite right): Step to left with L, lean to the right, and cross L in front of R. Part 2: 1-2: (Slow) step to the right with R. 3-4: Swing the left leg in front of R and let it fall back slowly. 5-8: Mirror image of 1-4: Step to left with L and swing R. 9-10: Step to the right with R and turn head to left. 11-12: Cross L in front of R and turn head to right. 13-16: Repeat 9-12. 17-20: Yemenite right. Counts 21-32 are the mirror image of 9-20: 21-22: Step to the left with L and turn head to right. 23-24: Cross R in front of L and turn head to left. 25-28: Repeat 21-24. 29-32: Yemenite left.
