Sham Harei Golan (There are the Mountains of Golan) Dance Choreographed by Jonathan Gabay, 1971 Notes by Phillip M. Feldman 5 Aug, 1987 This beginner-level circle dance has two parts. Throughout the dance, hands are joined at waist level to close the circle. Note: The "camel step" is an in-place movement, i.e., the feet do not move, and it should be done slowly and gracefully. With the right foot forward, bend both knees (not as far as a crouch) and move the hips circularly: forward, up (unbending the knees and lifting slightly on the toes), backwards, and then down (returning to original position). Part 1: Travelling CCW around the circle. 1-4: Four steps forward with R-L-R-L. 5-6: Step forward with R and camel (see above). 7-8: Camel (no movement of feet). 9-10: Brush L forward and bring it back. 11-12: Repeat 9-10. 13-16: Backward Yemenite L: step backward onto L, step in place on R, step forward with L, and pause for 1 count. 17-32: Repeat 1-16. Part 2: Turning to face into the circle. 1-2: (Slow) step forward with R. 3-4: Brush L forward. 5-6: Step forward with L. 7-8: Brush R forward. 9-10: Step forward with R. 11-12: Brush L forward and step on it, bending the knee slightly. 13-16: Four (quick) steps backwards with R-L-R-L. 17-32: Repeat 1-16. The whole dance repeats three times.
