Al Levavi (On My Heart) Dance and music by Moshiko Halevy Notes by Phillip M. Feldman Sep. 5, 2004 Al Levavi is an intermediate-level three-part couple dance. During the first two parts of the dance, the steps are identical for both men and women. The whole dance repeats three times. Part 1: Begin with partners face to face; the man faces out. Hands are not joined. Steps should be bouncy. 1-4: Modified Yemenite right: Step to the right with R, lean to the left, and on 3, cross R in front of L and immediately pivot 180-degrees to the left. Count 4 is a pause. (The choreographer's instructions call for a Yemenite right followed by a pivot on 4; the choice is yours). 5-8: Two slow steps backwards with L-R. (During counts 1-8, partners changed places). 9-10: Step to the left with L. 11-12: Touch with R heel in front of L and, crossing wrists at waist level, snap fingers. 13-16: Mirror image of 9-12: Step to the right with R and touch L. Note: Counts 17-32 are the mirror image of 1-16: 17-20: Modified Yemenite left: Step to the left with L, lean to the right, and on 19, cross L in front of R and immediately pivot 180-degrees to the right. Count 20 is a pause. 21-24: Two slow steps backwards with R-L. 25-26: Step to the right with R. 27-28: Touch with L heel in front of R and, crossing wrists at waist level, snap fingers. 29-32: Mirror image of 25-28: Step to the left with L and touch R. 33-64: Repeat 1-32. Part 2: Begin with partners face to face as in part 1. Hands are now raised above shoulder level and apart (you can either hold palms facing forward or snap fingers). 1-4: Yemenite R and pause on 4. 5-8: Two-step half turn to the left (to face away from partner) with L-R, cross L in front of R, and pause. All the men are now in a small circle facing inwards; the women are in a larger circle and facing outwards. 9-16: Same as counts 25-32 of part 1. 17-20: Three steps forward with R-L-R; pause on 20. Hands are held at waist level with palms facing up. 21-24: (Reversing palms to face downwards) three steps backward with L-R-L; pause on 24. 25-32: Four-step turn to the right (CW) with R-L-R-L (slow steps). 33-64: Repeat of 1-32, except that the directions in 17-20 and 21-24 are reversed (first go backwards, away from partner, with palms up, and then return with palms facing downwards). Part 3: Face partner and join both hands at waist level, woman's hands in man's. 1-2: Step outward onto R and pause (man steps forward; woman steps back). 3-4: Rock inward onto L and pause (man rocks back, woman forward). 5-8: Three steps outward with R-L-R and pause. Counts 9-16 are the reverse of 1-8: 9-10: Step inward onto L and pause. 11-12: Rock outward onto R. 13-16: Three steps inwards with L-R-L and pause. Man turns 90-degrees to left, woman 90-degrees to right, to stand side by side. Partners join right hands at waist level. The woman places her left hand on her partner's right shoulder; he places his hand over it. During the next 16 counts, each couple travels CCW around a small circle. Since the woman is on the outside, she must travel slightly faster than the man. 17-20: Three steps forward with R-L-R and pause. 21-24: Three steps forward with L-R-L and pause. 25-32: Repeat 17-24 (to complete circle). On count 32, turn to face partner and join hands. 33-64: Repeat 1-32. On count 32 briefly join both hands; release hands as you start part 1 of the dance again.
