Sulam Ya'acov (Jacob's Ladder) Notes by Phillip M. Feldman 1/24/1986 Rev. 10/10/1986 Sulam Ya'acov is an easy two-part circle dance. Hands are joined at waist level throughout the dance. The music has an eight-count introduction. First part: Each dancer moves so as to map out a box or square; face center during all 16 counts. 1: Step to the right with R, keeping R near the floor. Close L to R. 2: Step to the right with R and pause for half a count. The sequence in 1-2 is called a 'right slide-together-slide'. 3-4: Two slow steps forward with L and R. 5-6: Left slide-together-slide (mirror image of 1-2). 7-8: Two slow steps backwards with R and L. 9-16: Repeat 1-8. Second part: Begin facing center. 1: Step to the right with R. 2: Touch with L in front of R and immediately begin to swing L in a half circle, bringing it behind R (weight is still on R). 3: Step back on L and step in place (or rock forward) onto R. 4: Step-hop forward with L. 5: Cross R in front of L, turning body 90 degrees to the left, and immediately step to left with L, turning to face center again. 6: Cross R behind L, turning body 90 degrees to the right, and hop on R, raising left knee (`right step-hop-lift'). 7: Two-step half-turn, L-R, to left (CCW) to face CW around circle. 8: Left step-hop-lift (mirror image of 6). 9-16: Repeat 1-8.
