Ve'ahavta Lere'echa (And You Shall Love Your Neighbor) Dance by Shorer Shimon Notes by Phillip M. Feldman 5/21/1986 Rev. 8/7/1987 This is an easy/intermediate three-part line dance in the Hassidic style. The music has an 8-count introduction. The whole dance repeats three times. Part 1: Put your left hand on your own right shoulder and your right hand on the left shoulder of the person in front of you. 1-8: 8 small, bouncy steps forward, beginning with R. 9-10: Step forward on R and lean forward. 11-12: Close R to L, bringing body into vertical position (do not lean backwards). 13-14: Step to the right with R and lean to right. 15-16: Close R to L, bringing body into vertical position. 17-64: Repeat counts 1-16 three more times. Part 2: Begin facing 90 degrees to the left of LOD (the direction of travel during part 1). 1-2: Touch with right heel and then step forward onto R. 3-4: Step forward with L and pause for one count. Hand motions: On 1, reach upwards with both hands, as though in supplication. On 3, lower the hands with palms downwards. 5-8: Repeat 1-4. 9-10: Lean to right, reach upwards, and open fingers as though releasing a bird. 11-12: Mirror image of 9-10: Lean to left and reach upwards. 13-16: Make a 3-step half turn to the right with R-L-R and close with L. You should now be facing 90 degrees to the right of LOD. 17-32: Repeat counts 1-16 (to finish facing 90 degrees left of LOD). Part 3: Music is same as for part 2. 1-2: Leap in-place onto R and lift (or kick with) L, bending the left knee. 3-4: Leap in-place onto L and lift R. 5-8: Repeat 1-4. 9-12: Leap onto R and hop three times, turning 360 degrees to the right (CW). 13-16: Four quick scissors kicks: Jump onto L and kick with R, jump onto R and kick with L, and repeat. 17-32: Mirror image of counts 1-16: On 17-18, leap in-place onto L and lift R, bending the right knee... During counts 25-28, leap onto L and hop 3 times, making a full turn to the -1left-0.
